The Ya’axché scholarship program presently provides financial assistance to 27 students from its buffer communities to subsidize their high school costs. Students are selected in consultation with primary school principals and village leaders based on merit and need. As part of their agreement to participate in the program, the students meet monthly to conduct community outreach activities including highway litter pick-ups, tree planting, primary school environmental presentations, beautification of the Golden Stream Corridor Preserve, and environmental field trips.
