Ya’axché is always looking for dedicated, professional staff to work on its wide array of conservation and community development-focused projects. Volunteering provides a rich, unique experience in one of the world’s most pristine landscapes.

You will be part of both a grassroots effort to improve the lives and ecological conditions of the decedents of the great Mayan civilization, as well as a national effort to establish a leadership role in the implementation of the Integrated Landscape Management planning and implementation system.

Internships provide a depth of understanding that cannot be learned in any text book. Internship terms, objectives, activities and duration can be custom-fit to meet your specific educational or work experience need.

Benefits of working with Ya’axché

  • Free, shared housing (or camp) in a quiet, nature preserve
  • In-depth, interactive cultural experience unattainable by tourists
  • Opportunity to work closely with dynamic, multi-cultural staff
  • Adventure in a country with pristine ecosystems, world-class snorkeling and SCUBA
  • Appreciation for your dedication

Volunteers live and work at the Ya’axché Field Centre and become part of the team to gain and promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment.

Expenses volunteers or interns must cover:

  • Transportation to Punta Gorda, Belize, including airfare
  • Food, personal expenses, in-country travel, passport, visa
  • Volunteers must renew their tourist visa or apply for a volunteer visa if in-country more than 30 days.
