Beekeeping

The MGL farmers have been practicing beekeeping on a small scale for many years. Upon market demand, farmers found the need to conduct beekeeping in a sustainable manner. Beekeeping is globally recognized as a critical agricultural practice for the protection of bees as pollinators and for our forested habitats.

Ya’axché supports farmers’ sustainable initiatives and assists in implementing sustainable beekeeping practices by facilitating capacity building training, extension visits, and equipment grants to communities in the MGL.

Today, extension services are provided to beekeepers to guide them on how to harvest organic beekeeping products such as honey, bee wax and pollen while helping to protect forests across the MGL, inclusive of Maya Mountain North Forest Reserve.
